Tems becomes first Nigerian artist in history to debut No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100

by Sola Legend

Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage name Tems has become the very first Nigerian to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

The singer made history as the first Nigerian artist to debut at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with her feature on Future’s “Wait For U“. The song also features Canadian rapper, Drake.

This is proof that Afrobeat stars are still exploding in the biggest music market in the world, and Future‘s collaboration with Drake and Tems on “Wait For U,” which debuted on the Billboard Hot 100, is a glimpse of bigger things to come.

In support of the promotion of the hit song, the music video was released last week and it showcases Future as he experiences relationship issues in medieval times, and Drake rides a horse.
