To honour pioneering women in who have made significant impacts in Nigeria and beyond, Women Radio has launched a video series.
“The Iconic Women of our Time” series, a multimedia project highlights the lives of influential women who have stood up to corruption and promoted transparency.
Corrupt institutions make it difficult, if not impossible, for women to live safely and independently. This includes sexual exploitation, harassment, and a lack of opportunities for economic advancement.

As a result, there is a pressing need for additional voices to emphasise the repercussions of corruption from the women’s perspective, as these problems are not recognised and handled as vital by duty-bearers, making women more susceptible to corruption.
We honour the lives of historical women like Dora Akunyili, Hope Nwakwesi, and the Ebenebe Women, who have shown themselves to be incorruptible, responsible, and transparent in their job and line of duty.
They are called “Icons of Accountability”, watch below;
They have battled against a corrupt system and demonstrated that women are strong, persistent, and ambitious and that they are obviously agents of change battling opposing exploitation in kind or cash to achieve fundamental amenities of decent government, public critical services, such as the provision of employment, adequate medical care, and schools with superior education.
Women Radio 91.7 has partnered with the MacArthur Foundation to present the Iconic Women of Our Time series.
