A 29-year-old Russian tourist, Zaliya Shamigulova has been knifed to death by a man she met online. The two had linked for a holiday romance on the paradise island of Mauritius before the sad incident.

Zaliya, a former torchbearer ahead of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics was a university teacher from Chelyabinsk, Russia was first reported missing after she left her rented flat near Flic-en-Flac beach on August 17.

She was last seen in a video in white and blue clothing getting a lift from a ‘local man’ in a blue Toyota car as reported by a female travelling companion.

Zaliya was reportedly found naked with multiple stab wounds in a makeshift grave in Woodland in La Marie residential area.

Russian media outlet, SHOT who spoke with her distraut family reported that the late tourist had met with a now-detained suspect, Sundur Puryavirsingh, 29, who she allegedly met through the dating app, Tinder.

The suspect is an IT engineer who cofessed to the killing. Local police are now investigating if there were other accomplices in the murder.

“Sundur claimed he was deeply in love with Zaliya and had plans to marry her before discovering her infidelity.”

Sundur told the police he had gone to take his late Russian lover sightseeing on the island of Mauritius but pulled out his knife out of a jealous rage and killed her. He further revealed that he later stripped her and buried her in the makeshift grave.

The deceased, Zaliya had recently shared on social media that she was ‘catching happiness everyday’ on her Mauritius holiday before her passing. She was due to travel to Madagascar in a few days.
