BREAKING: Former Nigeria’s Interim leader, Ernest Shonekan dies at 85

Nigerian lawyer and statesman, Chief Ernest Adegunle Oladeinde Shonekan has died. He was aged 85.

Shonekan was the interim head of the Nigerian Government for about three months in 1993 before he was ousted in a coup led by late General Sani Abacha. He died in the early hours of today, January 11, 2022, at a hospital in Lagos.

The late statesman was born on 9 May 1936 in Lagos, to an Abeokuta-born civil servant. He was one of six children born into the family. He attended the CMS Grammar School and Igbobi college. He received a law degree from the University of London and was called to the bar. He later attended Harvard Business School.
