The Forbes Woman Africa Leading Women Conference and Awards Gala Dinner took place on International Women’s Day to honour and recognise the achievements of women from all around Africa who have made major contributions to their respective industries.
The celebration, which honoured women for their achievements in a variety of fields, took place at the Sun Bet Arena in Pretoria, South Africa.

Nonkululeko Gobodo, who has established a reputation for being a pioneer in her field, was selected as the recipient of the Business Women award.
Nkululeko Leadership Consulting is an organisation that specialises in executive coaching and leadership development. Gobodo is one of the co-founders of the company and serves as its executive chairwoman.

Two remarkable women received the Africa Lifetime Achievement Award: Gloria Serobe and Louisa Mojela. Serobe is the co-founder and executive director of WIPHOLD, a women-led investment firm committed to empowering women and advancing gender equality. Mojela is the founder and executive chairman of Women Investment Portfolio Holdings (WIPHOLD), which invests in companies devoted to gender development.
Nomcebo Zikode, a South African singer and composer whose popular song “Jerusalema” has made her a household name, was awarded the Entertainer Award. Zikode has worked with various worldwide acts, including Burna Boy, and is a Grammy Award winner.
Michaela Mycroft was the recipient of the Young Achievers Award. Mycroft is a co-founder of The Chaeli Campaign, a non-profit organisation in South Africa that aids disabled children. She has received worldwide acclaim as an advocate for disabled children.
Funmi Adewara was the recipient of the Technology and Innovation Prize. Adewara is the co-founder of Mobihealth International, a Nigerian telemedicine firm that delivers healthcare services utilising mobile technology to individuals in distant places.
The Youth Icon Award was given to Shamim Nabuuma Kaliisa. She is the founder and chief executive officer of Chil Artificial Intelligence Lab (Chil AI Lab). By allowing early cancer diagnosis, her organisation is enhancing the lives of women in Uganda via the use of technology.
Rabia Johnson won the award for Academic Excellence. She is a scientist with a National Research Fund (NRF) C2 rating and a Ph.D. from Stellenbosch University (SU) in 2007.
The Sports Award went to Salima Mukansanga. Since 2012, Mukansanga has been recognised by FIFA as an international football referee from Rwanda. She oversaw the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France and became the first female referee in the African Cup of Nations in 2022.
